Education NotesThe Brevard College Policy Center on the First Year of College listed Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi’s unique First Year Learning Communities Program (FYLCP) as one of only 13 to be recognized nationally. As an “Institution of Excellence in the First College Year,” the University is among such notables as the Indiana University, Purdue University Indianapolis, Ball State University, Drury University, United States Military Academy, the University of South Carolina and LaGuardia Community College in New York. Students are joined as a “community of peers” in a seminar class and attend a majority of core curriculum classes together. The seminar class provides structure to the freshmen encouraging success both academically and personally. Perhaps the best part of the program is that each and every student receives this guidance throughout their first two semesters. Additional programs are available for any student needing more help getting through the social and academic landmines always present in the first year of college. This is a wonderful environment for young adultsADHD ready to take the big step to college.
