Being a support group leader is very rewarding. You can help so many people with very little effort.
Find a time and place to meet. Try your local library, church or school. They often donate space for community service.
Word of mouth. Local newspapers will print the information for free. Your child's school and doctor will help you spread the word. Also, your local library will often let you place a flyer on their announcement board as will many stores.
The only expenses that I incur are for copies and mailings. If you offer babysitting you generally charge a nominal fee to pay your baby-sitter.
Approximately 30 minutes to an hour on planning plus the meeting itself. Many groups plan a 6 month calendar or annual calendar at one time. Planning an annual calendar take a few hours and then 15-20 minutes monthly for final preparation.
First, ADDA-SR is a non-profit organization. Each group receives rebate moneys for memberships to help cover expenses for their group. Support group leaders are offered the chance to attend the annual conference free.
